ART GOES ON – Offensive emails

RECHTSHILFE FÜR DAS KUNSTHAUS TACHELES

DR.Gregor Gysis Tachelesbriefe

Anfrage der Berliner Piraten an den Kultursenator

Anfrage der Linken im Bundestag zum Tacheles Skandal

Art goes on – The Mayor must resign.

His predilection for big investors-speculators is undermining Berlin as a genuine pivotal place for artists and creativity coming from all over the world.

On 4th September Tacheles has we knew it has come to an end, the end. Behind this sadly significant event lies the consolidated alliance between HSH Nordbank, shameless investors and the failure of politics. A piece of heritage was stolen from the centre of Berlin and the whole city. The only ones to be held responsible are the Senator for Culture and his State Secretary. To acquire the historical building on Oranienburgerstrasse and to guarantee the further development of the Tacheles project would have been easy, possible. Both leaders must resign for what their actions lead to in the whole cultural scenario of the city of Berlin.

The contribution of Tacheles to the conscious observation and investigation of current affairs will go beyond the final eviction of Tacheles. We will go into the matter “speculations paid by tax payers and the role of corrupt politics”. Each of us can/has to give her/his contribution to this process, shed light on the new financial aristocracy inferno.

The offensive mail can be one of the way in which doing it, a real digital pillory.

Here you find a Facebook post, an instance of offensive text. This kind of communication can be Information, Indignation and Discussion which leave the smart net community and materialize directly in our beloved politics and media operators’ mail accounts.

Hey Klaus Wowereit (Berlin Mayor and Senator for Culture)!
Thanks to your courage, to you indolence on topics which have a high civil and public interest, today (4th September 2012) Berlin lost a great artistic and cultural attraction, once again i.e. Kunsthaus Tacheles.
The end of the picturesque artistic centre represents a business deal and now it will probably become just one of the many depressing and grayish luxurious symbols of capitalism in this city.
Artists, visitors and tourists will have no reason to pass by this area. The space dedicated to culture in Berlin is from today reduced by 10,000 square meters while empty spaces keep inflating this city real estate market together with social injustice
Thank you a lot!

The offensive mail has the same spirit of the German expression Tacheles reden (Tacheles is a Yiddish word that means goal, target) i.e. to speak Tacheles, which therefore means to express opinions without any filter without being polite in a fake way as when you say “it’s probably better for me not to take a clear position because the mayor could not like it and I would miss the chance to be included in the mainstream art scenario in the near future”.
To isolate in niches or in personal projects or in small fractions without considering the context in which we are working is absolutely counterproductive. The Mayor and his State Secretary must immediately resign because they were found inappropriate for their civil duties. Tacheles as we knew it died because of their absenteeism, of their proximity to real estate speculation and their amateur cultural politics. Under this government Berlin is perishing since years now and it is doing so at an awkward speed: everyone can seen it, even the less careful eyes.

All this must be stopped, now.

The following template is a good example of an offensive mail that you can address to the Mayor and Culture Senator Klaus Wowereit:

Dear Mayor and Senator for Culture Wowereit,

There are a few considerations that I want to put forward and all involve you because of the role that you hold with respect to cultural affair in the city of Berlin.

I will start from Tacheles, which is now dead. I want to thank you for that, me and the millions of visitors that have got to know it in the last 22 years. Moreover, “Based in Berlin”, the artistic exhibition that you supported so much, was eventually a big fiasco.
Additionally, the C/O cultural space is still threatened of eviction and will probably have to be dislocated.
Last but not least, the opening of the new airport “the biggest in Europe” still remains a mystery. When will it open? It was expected in June and millions of public money have already been used for it. Such a huge project has a lot to do with culture. Big projects like this usually fail in societies that are infected by corruption, avidity and egoism. In this cases culture gets vulnerable, it lacks competences, it lacks civility. All this is happening here, in Berlin, and now, under our eyes.

From your offices your are responsible for all of this and I therefore ask you to resign from your charge of Senator for Culture.

Best regards
